I saw an episode of Dr. Phil today which featured two women who both use their daughters to compete in toddler pageants. One of the women is infamous for dressing up her daughter as the prostitute figure which Julia Roberts portrays in “Pretty Woman.” This mom insists that she would never portray her daughter as a “hooker,” and that she thought it would be a cute idea to do a character study of Julia Roberts.
Ok. Let’s process this. A three-year-old doing a “character study” of an actress portraying a prostitute? This is “cute”? What about sexual predators who might see these images? Would it be “cute” for them?
Now, here’s the real kicker. This woman says that she got so “persecuted” for casting her daughter in that role that she was eventually forced to step down from her position as Sunday school teacher.
Sunday school teacher? I cannot believe that a Christian would put their child through any beauty pageant, much less portray their child as a prostitute. Furthermore, this woman was not only a Christian, but also a teacher of the Bible. Does anybody else see a problem with this?
Curious, I googled “Christian beauty pageant.” I hoped to find churches speaking out on the cruel practice of subjecting children to the scrutiny of their bodies, almost from birth. Instead, I found several sites promoting Christian beauty pageants and the “virtues” of toddler and adolescent beauty pageants. I found that beauty pageants are especially popular in the South among “born-again evangelicals.”
I just shake my head at the depths of deception which the church is promoting. Where in the Bible does YHWH encourage women to doll up their children and present them to the world to be judged on their beauty? What about the majority of children who are not winners in these pageants, and grow up believing that they are ugly or worthless? Is this YHWH’s heart?
I open the Scripture, and here is what I find:
1 Samuel 16:7
But YHWH said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. YHWH does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but YHWH looks at the heart.”
1 Peter 3:3-4
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in YHWH’s sight.
Yeshua said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but YHWH knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in YHWH’s sight.
Even more grim, I have to question what is the motivation of these moms? Why do they place their very young children in these pageants? Some of them sign up and prepare for the pageant circuit while they are pregnant. They take professional photo shoots, complete with makeup and costumes, on their babies as young as 6 months old to prepare their portfolios for the pageants. What is the purpose? Did these children ask for this? Obviously not, as unborn children and babies cannot speak.
The motivation is mostly fame and fortune for the mothers and families of these poor children. Money is the number one idol of our culture, and these women are sacrificing their children on the altar to the god of money. This is one of the gravest sins which humans can commit.
You shall not give any of your children to offer them to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the Lord.
You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way, for every abominable thing that the Lord hates they have done for their gods, for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.
The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Say to the people of Israel, Any one of the people of Israel or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel who gives any of his children to Molech shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones. I myself will set my face against that man and will cut him off from among his people, because he has given one of his children to Molech, to make my sanctuary unclean and to profane my holy name. And if the people of the land do at all close their eyes to that man when he gives one of his children to Molech, and do not put him to death, then I will set my face against that man and against his clan and will cut them off from among their people, him and all who follow him in whoring after Molech.
Christians, wake up! Stop destroying your children by putting them through the fires of the beauty pageants. YHWH is coming to judge, and he will vindicate. The children are precious to his heart.
